Comey has stated his clean record regarding the indictments

Former Federal Bureau of Investigation chief James Comey has denied the charges to making false statements to congressional representatives and obstructing a lawmaking procedure.

The former director's attorney entered the answer representing him in a national courtroom in the Virginia city of Alexandria on Wednesday morning.

His attorney declared he would attempt to have the case terminated for multiple causes including that his the accused, a critic of Donald Trump, was being selectively prosecuted.

James Comey was charged just days after Trump pushed his attorney general to take action against him.

Judicial Process

At the proceedings on mid-week, his attorney Mr Fitzgerald told the magistrate they planned to present several legal requests to throw out the proceedings before a court case, claiming the legal action was spiteful and that a federal prosecutor was wrongfully designated to assume control of the proceedings.

James Comey's legal matter was originally overseen by Erik Siebert, who stepped down under influence from the former president after his investigation into another political adversary - New York Attorney General Letitia James - did not succeed to file indictments.

Judicial Environment

The former director came across in optimistic frame of mind as he entered the legal venue on Wednesday, conversing with his lawyers and sharing humor. He was supported by his partner, his wife and offspring Maureen, a federal prosecutor who the previous administration dismissed.

After listening to the judge recite his constitutional guarantees and the dual charges against him in court on Wednesday, Mr Comey was inquired if he grasped the allegations.

"Yes your honour. Thank you," he informed the proceedings.

Historical Information

James Comey was the chief of the Federal Bureau of Investigation from 2013 to 2017 and was fired about four months into the former president's first administration as national leader. At the period, he was overseeing an probe into foreign election meddling and whether there were any links between Moscow and the presidential campaign.

While in office, Mr Comey caused a backlash from liberal politicians when he declared just immediately preceding the 2016 presidential election that he was examining Democratic candidate Clinton's use of a personal email system. Indictments against Clinton were not pursued, leading to negative feedback from conservative politicians as well.

Present Charges

Government attorneys assert the former director provided false information to Congress during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing in recent years when he was being questioned about both the email probe as well as the election interference investigation. They claim he deceived the upper house by saying he had not permitted a person at the Federal Bureau of Investigation to disclose to media organizations information about the government examinations.

Government lawyers also accuse Mr Comey of "improperly attempting to sway, hinder and slow" the panel by making false statements to it.

Individual Responses

Via social media the former director posted to his Instagram after he was accused, he said he was innocent and charged Trump of behaving like a "tyrant".

"Our household have known for a long time that there are costs to opposing Mr Trump," he said. "We will not live on our knees."
"I am not guilty," he added. "Thus initiate a legal proceeding."

These allegations against Mr Comey came after the former president shared on social media demanding his chief prosecutor, Pam Bondi, charge James Comey and other people.
