Australian authorities have ended the hunt for a young boy who has been disappeared in the wilderness for nearly three weeks, after renewed efforts proved unsuccessful to locate any traces of the youngster.

The child was spotted playing outside his home on a isolated farmland near Yunta, about 300km from Adelaide, on September 27th.

His grandmother briefly departed for about half an hour before looking for him, only to discover the boy missing, prompting one of the largest land and air missions in South Australian history.

Latest Situation

Police - who do not believe criminal activity - say they will persist looking into, but that the matter has become a "recovery mission".

Last week, officials temporarily wound down the operation, only to restart it on recently alongside numerous Australian Defense Force members.

"Official authorities said police were looking a broader region based on new evaluations from survival and rescue professionals, rather than any new information."
