Exploring a Unusual Steam Demo: Playing as a Piece of Feces in a Mission to Find the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is currently underway, and gamers have found numerous engaging independent titles. Yet, one is particularly notable for its unconventional concept. Named Unko Technica, this classic-feel side-scrolling game lets you play a protagonist that is literally a turd trying to travel to a restroom. As a fun fact, "Unko" means "poop."

How you interact is simple: press a single jump button. Across numerous stages, you'll face boss fights and visit a market to buy customizations for your poop character.

Execute your actions precisely, since one wrong move forces restarting the level. Bounce off air pockets to launch your character higher, navigate crumbling ledges, and interact with triggers to unlock new areas. Gather currency and use them on challenging levels where things ramps up.

Visually, the game boasts eye-catching environments and catchy background music. Its minimalist visual style featuring moving geometric shapes evokes memories of fans of classic titles like Earthbound.

Even though difficult to recall other games where you are a dung character, interactive entertainment often featured toilet humor. For example, in Death Stranding, you can craft explosives from character waste. Games like Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved utilize manure as soil enrichment. Naturally, this theme shows up heavily in the role-playing game The Stick of Truth.

Despite its humorous idea, Unko Technica has already received significant recognition, such as taking top honors at a major publisher's GYAAR Studio in 2023. The demo is ready at present on Steam, with the full game planned to launch on Steam in the fall.
