England's Head Coach Claims Best Players Do Not Necessarily Form the Strongest Squad
The England manager declared that putting together the highest-profile players is no assurance of building the best team unit. Tuchel suggested regardless of whether Jude Bellingham had returned to peak fitness following his shoulder problem, he might still have been omitted from the latest national team selection.
Emphasis on Squad Harmony
England's head coach further revealed that Bukayo Saka's return might not have occurred if his teammate the injured winger remained fit. Tuchel has placed significant emphasis on squad unity with his choices for the upcoming Wales friendly and World Cup qualifier in Latvia.
"We're creating the best team," said the England boss, who challenged the traditional thinking that championship teams typically choose their most dangerous forwards.
Previous Results
Tuchel pointed to the excellent atmosphere during last month's campaign where the national team beat Andorra and excelled against the Serbian team in Bellingham's absence. He saw no reason to alter the squad chemistry that produced those impressive results.
- Bellingham left out despite Real Madrid return
- Foden not included despite resurgence
- Jack Grealish also missed out
Physical Condition Factors
Although the manager partly explained Bellingham's exclusion to fitness concerns, he acknowledged that the midfielder desired selection when they spoke. The German coach had previously said sorry to the midfielder for comments regarding his playing behavior.
"Don't you think that attitude from substitutes, support from training, and team togetherness allows the first team to play at their best?" Tuchel asked.
Squad Selection Justification
The coach stressed that his decisions were not personal targeting specific individuals but rather rewarded those who had performed in the last campaign.
"What would be my explanation dropping them while remaining authentic with my statements?" Tuchel asked.
Necessary Adjustments
The only change to the squad was compulsory with injured Noni Madueke making way for the returning Saka. Tuchel clarified that the Arsenal winger might have missed out had Madueke remained fit.
Other absentees featured Chelsea's attacking midfielder, who continues affected by fitness issues. Given just two more camps before the World Cup, opportunities are diminishing for some players to impress.
Tournament Timing Issues
Tuchel expressed his preference for England's World Cup games to begin at later times because of temperature worries across the host nations. Tuchel recognized this would create viewing difficulties for English fans but maintained athlete protection must come first.
"I know the fans won't be happy but for the team it's better with later kickoffs," he stated. "Our athletes are the game and we must to protect them."
