Approximately fifty automobiles have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postboxes were marked, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Police report they were alerted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued substance.
The substance had been applied in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Officers then located numerous other marked vehicles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation banning the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement state initial examinations indicate the fluid was probably human blood.
"Currently there is no indication as to its origin; officials are presently not cognizant of any harm in relation with the event," they added.
Local authorities stated they were trying "to solve the mystery" and have asked to the residents for details.
A high-ranking official said the attack made him stunned and needed to be addressed promptly.
"This event strikes at the core of Hanau and revives the wounds of the right-wing attack five years ago," he wrote on a platform, recalling the death of nine individuals by a gunman focusing on people of migrant background in 2020.
