Welcome to Del Mar near San Diego, as day two of the Breeders’ Cup 2025 is underway. This marks the final day of elite competition for legendary jockey Frankie Dettori, who is set to retire following a remarkable four-decade career.

This event was expected to be one of the stronger editions of this distinctive 7-furlong competition for female horses. However, veterinary inspections led to several scratches this morning, including top contenders Sweet Azteca and Tamara.

Consequently, the field now appears much smaller, but trainer Bob Baffert has a major opportunity to secure his 20th Breeders’ Cup win. His runners include Richi and Splendora, whereas Hope Road, winner of the Grade One Ballerina Stakes, is considered the main challenger.

One of the leading European contenders, Arizona Blaze, was withdrawn yesterday, however focus stays on Khaadem with rider Frankie Dettori, who aim to build on a recent top-level victory in the Woodford Stakes.

Additional contenders include Bucanero Fuerte as well as She’s Quality, both with strong credentials. The US-trained rivals such as Motorious, Ag Bullet, plus Reef Runner present serious challenges, especially Ag Bullet showing Grade One-winning form at Saratoga.
